Although Allison works with people of all ages, she specializes in working with children (8-12), adolescents (13-18) and young adults (18-30) struggling with academic / career stress, anxiety, OCD, depression, grief, life transitions and social/emotional issues that interfere with school, work and relationships. She also enjoys working with parents. Through compassion and honesty, Allison will work with you to create meaningful change towards achieving your goals. She works from a “whole person” perspective, acknowledging what is going on in your mind, heart and body. Allison incorporates a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches to help you heal, including CBT, Mindfulness (MBSR) and Self Compassion.

Allison’s  approach to therapy places emphasis on the relationship between the therapist and client as the foundation for healing. She works collaboratively with her clients to create a safe and trusting environment where the clients can gain deeper insight into themselves and learn skills to feel empowered to effect positive change in their lives.

Experience:

Allison has a wide range of clinical experience working with children, teens, and families in a variety of settings, including domestic and international adoption, school social work, hospice care, and private practice. Over the past 8 years, Allison has provided therapeutic counseling to children and families in areas around attachment, relationships, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, academic challenges and life transitions. Her passion is working with adolescents teaching mindfulness based skills to help them overcome the stress and anxiety in their life. Using a holistic and compassionate approach, Allison incorporates attachment theory, family systems, and mindfulness cognitive behavioral therapy as the foundation to her work.

Education:

Allison attended Oregon State University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Development. She then went on to obtain a Masters in Clinical Social Work from New York University, graduating with highest honors, where she specialized in school counseling and received her Pupil Personnel Services Credential in the states of NY and CA.

Training:

In her spare time, Allison has been completing trainings to become certified as a Mindfulness and Cognitive Behavioral Specialist. Currently she enjoys trainings in Emotional Freedom Technique, known as Tapping, and used for anxiety disorders. In addition, Allison holds a Supervisor Certificate administered by Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service and BBBS of New York’s Center for Training and Professional Development, a course designed for youth practitioners to assist their organization in developing, implementing and expanding youth mentoring programs.
